History (USA, 1937-1981)
Daniel Kazoff (Daniel Kazoff, according to some sources, Kosov or Kosovsky) founded the Fiorenza company in the late 1940s in New York. Prior to that, Daniel successfully worked for the jewelry company Speier. Therefore, his company became rapidly successful. Fiorenza sold jewelry throughout the country and had a strong presence in stores such as Bloomingdales, Lord & Taylor, Bonwit Teller, Sax Fifth Avenue.
In addition to jewelry, Fiorenza produced various women’s accessories and dressing table items – the cutest jewelry boxes, charming needle cases in the form of animals and birds, miniature pillboxes, original photo frames, magnifying glass lorgnettes, beautiful hair combs, hand mirrors and holders for lipstick, as well as powder boxes, in addition to cases for rings and figurines. Sometimes the firm carried out similar orders for other companies.
For example, Fiorenza had exclusive contracts with Revlon and Estee Lauder to produce containers for lipsticks and solid perfumes.
After the departure of Daniel Kazoff, his son, Larry Kazoff, took over the business of the company. But in 1981 he had a terrible accident. The company ceased to exist and went down in history, remaining forever on the pages of vintage catalogs as Fiorenza Fabulous – Incredible Florenza.
Features and style of jewelry from Fiorenza
Fiorenza products are influenced by Renaissance art: the Florenza brand is always distinguished by massive antique-gold metal, multi-colored enamels, imitation pearls, delightful carved cameos, frosted and shiny art glass, richly colored rhinestones and aurora borealis crystals. Cameos were of two types – hand carved from natural sea shells or produced by the famous Wedgwood company. All of the jewelry used either 24 carat gold plating or their patented gold alloys – “Fiorenza Gold”, “French Gold” and “French Rose”. Especially famous are the Maltese crosses, consisting of several metal parts. Typically, Fiorenza jewelry has a relief surface, complex pendants and chains.
Fiorenza Jewelry Marking
Most of the jewelry is marked with the hallmark “FLORENZA”. But earlier works were made without marking. Their attribution is difficult, but a specialist will always be able to identify such jewelry by the quality of the metal, design and other characteristic features.
The rest of the products and objects were branded: “Rosenfeld by Fiorenza”, and “Fiorenza” and “Lorraine Marsel”.
