Staret – from the word “Star”: an American jewelry brand of the first half of the last century. Its brooches are now becoming the object of hunting for collectors of vintage jewelry. Many of Staret’s works have entered the history of jewelry art and are described in books on 20th century jewelry.
The jewelers of this brand are interesting in that they tried to recreate in their works the techniques of the 16th-18th centuries, including the famous tremblants (tresolki). Earlier, such “trembling” jewelry was made of precious metals and diamonds. Staret revived the technology and applied it in costume jewelry.
Their brooches may seem too massive or rough, but they are certainly unusual in design!
All that is known about it is that this company produced jewelry for a very short period of time in the 40s, was located, most likely, in Chicago.
Staret jewelry is large, made of pot metal, covered with bright and cheerful enamels, strewn with rhinestone pavé. Staret jewelry is very rare and sought after by collectors.
“Birds in a Cage” is a very recognizable brooch from this company. These were pendant brooches, large, voluminous. Now we would say 3D design. In the cage there was either one or a pair of funny parrots, covered with multi-colored enamels and rhinestones. The cage itself is decorated with large multi-colored crystals.
