Silvia Furmanovich knows how to work with materials that are not standard for jewelry art, such as wood, mined in her native Brazil, or bamboo, from which, according to the ancient Japanese method, earrings and bracelets were woven and then decorated with precious stones and gold. But a hundred-year-old papyrus is perhaps her most unusual find. The material, bought from a merchant in Egypt, is a hundred-year-old forgery of thousand-year-old papyri. These were made for tourists who flocked to the country in the early 1900s.
