The Belais Jewelry Company was founded by David Belais in the 1800s. They were the first to produce an alloy of gold, zinc and nickel, replacing platinum. The company was based in New York. They used extensive and successful advertising campaigns and became known as a high-end jewelry company producing wedding and engagement rings and other jewelry. And in 1917 the company issued a patent for 18-karat white gold.

Bele produced art deco jewelry that included rings with diamonds and other precious stones, filigree brooches, all made of 18 karat and 14 karat gold. The jewelry was marked Belais 18K.
