“Forever in motion” – this is the name of the world-famous Swiss watch manufacturer Movado translated from Esperanto. It not only reflects the long-lasting quality of the products, but can also be regarded as a motto, the cornerstone of the watch company’s philosophy. In 2011, Movado will celebrate its 130th anniversary. During this time, the company has received more than 100 patents and over 200 international awards for technological innovation, truly Swiss quality and unrivaled design. Keeping pace with the times, Movado firmly holds the authority of a century-old tradition.
Opened in 1881, the private workshop of 19-year-old watchmaker Aschille Ditesheim, which employed only seven people, became a widely known progressive company in 1902. In 1912, the company made a revolutionary breakthrough in the watch industry, receiving a patent for a technological innovation – the Polyplan watch, the case of which follows the line of the wrist. The next stage in the history of Movado design began in 1925, when decorative pocket watches were first presented in Paris at the Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs. And in 1926, their modification Ermeto appeared.
These watches were automatically wound by opening/closing the cushion-shaped case. 1930 in the history of the company was marked by the beginning of the stage of “diamond creativity” – digital watches were developed, the display of which showed hours and minutes. 15 years later, the company presented the first wristwatch with automatic winding Tempomatic.

In 1947, thanks to the design of the artist Nathan George Horwitt, Movado watches acquired a dial, which has remained the company’s calling card to this day and is widely known as the Museum. Since then, the distinctive feature of Movado watches is a single gold dot at the 12 o’clock mark, symbolizing the Sun at its zenith. The movement of the hands in this modernist concept alludes to the Earth’s orbital motion. Not a single distracting detail, not a single unnecessary stroke. The purity of the lines has given the famous brand the glory of strict elegance, recognizable all over the world.
Museum watches have not lost their relevance in our time. Today, the collection is represented by a wide variety of models that are distinguished by their legendary design: a round dial, a glossy stainless steel case, sapphire crystal and a strict leather strap.
