Lanvin – one of the oldest of all existing French Haute Couture Houses, named after its founder Jeanne Lanvin. The brand of the same name produces women’s and men’s clothing and footwear, accessories, as well as luxury perfumes.
The history of the creation of the Lanvin brand
At the origins of the Fashion House is Jeanne-Marie Lanvin, who was born on January 1, 1867 in Paris. As the eldest of 11 children of Bernard-Constantin Lanvin, a press worker, and Sophie Blanche Deshaies, a seamstress, the girl grew up in modest conditions.
When Jeanne was 13 years old, she got a job as an assistant to the Boni milliner. In 1883, the girl went to work in the Madame Felix hat shop, which was located on the fashionable rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré. After some time, she joined the ranks of the employees of the studio of Suzanne Talbot, where she worked as a seamstress. There, Zhanna demonstrated her incredible talent, which was appreciated by the leadership that sent her to Spain to study the art of sewing.
Jeanne Lanvin’s hat shop Upon arriving in France in 1889 at the age of 22, Jeanne opened a small hat shop at 16 rue Boissy d’Angles, in the heart of Paris, marking the beginning of the history of the Lanvin brand. Extremely elegant women’s hats came out from under her talented hands, behind which noble ladies lined up.
Lanvin after Jeanne
On July 6, 1946, at the age of 79, Jeanne Lanvin died peacefully, leaving behind an entire empire, the control of which went to her only child, Marie-Blanche.
She led the company until 1958, until her death. Since Marie had no children, after her death, her cousin Yves Lanvin was at the helm of the company.
