Irina Sergeeva, St. Petersburg, glass blower, designer of glass jewelry and leather bags.
Irina creates beautiful glass lampwork decorations.
Lampwork (lampwork, lampwork – there are many spellings in Russian) is the art of creating beads and small sculptures from soft soda glass in the flame of a small gas burner. Glass at a temperature of 850 degrees melts, and it is shaped with the help of special tools.
A few years ago, Irina saw the work of an American master on the Internet and literally fell ill with this occupation. However, for a couple of years it all seemed complicated – burners, equipment, ventilation … However, it so happened that in October 2007 she went to study abroad with Sarah Hornik. (Sarah Hornik is a famous lampwork master).
In addition to her work, Irina was one of the first to develop this area in Russia and teach this skill to other people.
The creation of one piece of glass takes from one day to two or three weeks, and some decorations are made for half a year.
