Poison Drop has a new brand with a worldwide reputation and rich history – Tous bear jewelry. Of course, the logo in the form of a silhouette of a teddy bear is familiar to you. And here’s something you might not know about the brand.
It all started with a watch repair shop
Tous was founded in 1920 when Salvador Tous Blavi and his wife Teresa Ponsa Mas opened a small watch repair shop in a small town near Barcelona.
Only in 1970, the founder’s son Salvador Tous Ponsa and his wife Rosa Oriol also begin to repair and transform jewelry, making them more stylish and modern. The success was so great that in the early 80s, Rosa began to design.
Tous bear jewelry is still a family business
In the 90s, the third generation of Tous joins the brand: the four daughters of Salvador and Rosa. TOUS, a world-renowned brand with stores in 45 countries, is still a family-owned company. This is incredibly impressive and inspiring for us.
Why a teddy bear?
In 1985, during one of her travels, Rose Toes noticed a teddy bear in the shop window, such as each of us had in childhood and evoked the warmest and most tender memories. So she got the idea to make decorations in the shape of a bear. They have become so popular that they are now the most recognizable symbol of the brand. Until now, more than half of TOUS sales are made up of bears. And last year, the TOUS bear even became part of the permanent exhibition of the Barcelona Design Museum – wow!
Quality jewelry at affordable prices
In the 80s, Rosa Tous noticed that there are two types of jewelry: luxury and inaccessible – these were bought only by men as a gift, and cheap jewelry. She decided to create something new: high quality jewelry at an affordable price – what we now call “demifine”.
Tous celebrate their centenary
To celebrate their anniversary, TOUS launched the 100×100 Tous campaign. 10 artists from different countries rethought the brand’s symbol, the bear, and adapted it to their style. Here are the recognizable insane characters of Brosmind, and the contrasting minimalism of the Russian illustrator Irina Kruglova – you’ve definitely seen their work before.
Especially for Russia, Tous bear jewelry has created the Alma Rusa collection: classic earrings and bear pendants made of silver coated with verme, painted in Gzhel and Khokhloma. And one of the pendants is in the form of a matryoshka, ruddy and in a sundress.
Not only bears
TOUS is jewelry made of precious metals with a vermey coating (it contains more gold than silver). Their design can be different: minimalistic products that can be worn without taking off, or, conversely, noticeable, corresponding to all trends. For example, a designer necklace that combines not even two, but four different colors of metal.
