The founder of the company House of Umrao, Anuzh Shah, comes from a family that has been in the jewelry business for three generations. The family business began with the sale of precious stones – Burmese rubies, sapphires, Colombian emeralds and diamonds. The company has successfully developed and earned an excellent reputation, among their clients were the famous jewelry houses of Europe – Bulgaria, Cartier, Jar of Paris. Currently, the grandchildren of the founder of the company have divided it into two brands: Umrao, which produces traditional Jadu jewelry, and House of Umrao, which creates modern jewelry.
Anuzh Shah prefers art deco style
In his interpretation, this style looks softer and more playful. Traditional Indian motives are organically intertwined with rigid, geometric lines and create a completely new shape.
The founder of House of Umrao finds his inspiration in absolutely everything – in the old narrow streets of the city, in the architecture of buildings, music, films. His jewelry contains many encrypted images, which are masterfully played in the design of the jewelry, which displays what served as an inspiration – for example, a series with movie stars and a series with architectural elements.
Anuzh Shah does not focus on one stylistic direction
He prefers to experiment with materials and designs, to create new styles.
Inspired by Art Deco, where black onyx and rhinestone create uncompromising lines, jewels are intricately carved in floral motifs to soften the look. A designer often has rhinestone in his ornaments, its transparency makes massive elements graceful and fragile.
The design of these jewelry differs from traditional Indian forms, there is no abundance of gold and multi-row massive necklaces. In House of Umrao jewelry, Indian motifs take on a new image, their style becomes lighter, more graceful and versatile.

In 2018, the Indian auction house Saffronart, which specializes in art objects, for the first time in its history, released a separate catalog dedicated to the work of this master.
