Vietnamese craftsman, Chi Huynh (artist and poet, son of a jeweler) created unique pearl jewelry. The Vietnamese master proposed a new technology – instead of a ball, put precious or semi-precious stones into pearl-bearing mollusks and get a diamond in pearls or turquoise in pearls at the end.
These carved pearls are unique. The method was called “Diamond in the Pearl” and patented by Master Chi in 2001. Today Galatea has about 1500 suppliers in Asia, Europe and America and pearl farms in California and Vietnam.
“I carve pearls to make them beautiful, but it’s more than that. This is an act of creativity, an expression of my hope to be free, to see beyond the obvious and create something unique.” Chi Huin.
This is not Huynh’s first jewelry innovation. Diamond in a pearl. Royal beads handmade from cultured pearls. A Galatea pearl carved to have a gemstone bead inside. A color-shifting DavinChi cut that reflects the colors of the gemstones below. Pearls with diamonds. The Momento collection, pearl jewelry and wedding rings with an NFC chip inside that activates a voice message stored in an app on your phone. The list of patents grows every year. Huynh also created ShopInde, a network of independent jewelers and their suppliers to jointly promote online sales and revenue sharing.
