Nowadays, a strap with a buckle is rarely present in women’s clothing. Clothing has become looser and more functional than a hundred years ago.
But at the beginning of the twentieth century, the belt buckle was not only a buckle, but also an ornament. The strap emphasized the thin waist, and the buckle drew attention to this fact. Jewelers made buckles from precious metals, decorated with precious stones and enamels. The shape and design of these buckles reflects the fashion of the time like in a mirror. In them you will see all the favorite motifs of the Art Nouveau era: peacocks and nymphs, flowers and snakes, scarabs and dragonflies, languid girls and flowing smooth lines.
