Originals by ELVIRA JACKIE CORP, a family-owned company in Miami, Florida, began in the 1970s and went out of business in 1997. According to official documents filed in 1987, the company’s president was Ulysses Pino, treasurer Elvira Pino and secretary Jacqueline Causer. Although the company lasted less than two decades, it created memorable, unique pieces that are now collectibles.
Traditionally, the company’s artisans used porcelain, rhinestones, plastic, art glass and imitation pearls. In addition, they hand-painted delicate facial shapes red lips, black eyebrows, beautiful eyes framed by lashes and a touch of blue eyeshadow.
These beautiful female faces are reminiscent of the Art Deco style of the girls from “The Great Gatsby”. It is noteworthy that all of these vintage pieces have the distinctive marking on the back “Elvira and Jackie”.
