American jewelry designer Angela Conti designs and manufactures her own jewelry masterpieces. This is a completely original work. Only occasionally does she entrust complex stone-cutting work to lapidaries from Idar-Oberstein. Angela’s favorite gems are opal and irregularly shaped pearls, from which Angela creates fantastic compositions inspired by natural forms.
More than 40 years ago, Angela graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in art. After studying design, jewelry manufacturing techniques and the basics of cutting, Angela took up jewelry design. Her work has been exhibited at national and international exhibitions. As an Italian American, Angela combines the best of both cultures in her work.
Angela draws inspiration for her compositions from the surrounding nature. Angela’s flower fantasies often begin with a walk in the woods. A grandson who discovers a particular twig and brings it to his grandmother for inspection will start a flood of possible designs. Spotting a fallen leaf during your morning gardening routine adds interesting texture. A little seaweed washed ashore after a storm can produce a wavy line of red jasper.

Angela’s jewelry is reminiscent of the works of Art Nouveau jewelers who were also inspired by natural motifs. Angela Conti’s favorite jewels are pearls and opals. In the intricate outlines of baroque pearls, Angela sees the delicate petals of unseen flowers or the wings of butterflies. Another characteristic feature of Conti jewelry is the use of carved stones in the design.
